About GB Foam

Founded in 1976 by Clive Bailey, GB Foam was established as a means to provide high-quality foam to High Wycombe’s, then thriving furniture industry. Starting out with just two members of staff and a few pieces of foam cutting machinery, we have evolved a considerable amount since our humble beginnings.

The company began by supplying raw foam materials to High Wycombe’s historically renowned furniture trade. Nowadays, High Wycombe’s furniture trade is sadly a shadow of its former self. A few furniture manufacturers still remain, however, these numbers are extremely small in comparison to the past.

When the company began trading, there were eleven independent converters of foam in the town; now there are just three. Determined to never abandon his vision and be defeated by this Clive and his team strived to expand the company in order to cater to numerous, newly emerging areas of the foam market. The efforts of Clive and his team helped the company to become what it is today.

in 1977, GB Actions was established. GB Actions provided high-quality foam for chair and office furniture manufacturers. Just a year later, in 1978, GB Van Hire was founded as a means to hire out small VW transporter vans for a variety of uses.

In 1980, Gemini Bedding, a new GB Foam brand was formed. This brand would later transform into Lion Mattresses (which remains under that name today). Gemini Bedding made some of the finest foam mattresses, using the best materials available at the time. These mattresses were supplied unmarked to the likes of companies such as Dreams. A personalised range was also supplied for sale within other independent bed stores. We Make Beds was established in 1991 and acted as a factory outlet which supplied the Gemini range of mattresses as well as bed frames.

Around this same time, the company also had a retail store named Beds and Bunks. This store supplied some of the best foam mattresses to the people of Maidenhead and beyond.

Later in 1993, Möbella was formed. Möbella was a retail store specialising in a vast range of furniture including beds, mattresses, various bedroom furniture, sofas and more! Möbella was formed around the same time as when MFI flatpack furniture was becoming more prevalent. Many consumers at the time disliked the low quality and amount of time it took to make this furniture. Möbella offered furniture of superior quality, that came pre-assembled, which many customers preferred.

The company celebrated 40 years of trading in 2016. It has come an exceedingly long way from the supply of raw foam materials to a singular county’s furniture trade. Nowadays, GB Foam offers services to numerous high profile clients worldwide.

Company Director Ben Bailey says “It’s been an honour to see our products used and enjoyed by so many people throughout the years. The company may have come a long way since 1976, however, we’ve never forgotten our roots or abandoned our company values. I’m extremely proud to be running the business my father began all those years ago, I only wish that he could still be here to see how far we’ve come.”

The future right now remains a mystery. Who knows what direction the company will take next or what areas of the market will see an increasing demand for foam products?
