What is CAD?
CAD (Computer-Aided Design) is computer software popularly used for creating detailed 2D drawings or 3D models. CAD software is predominantly used by engineers, artists, drafters and architects for use in various design mediums.
CAD software helps designers to effectively visualise what their design will look like as a physical product. It helps to accurately plan out designs before moving towards the manufacturing process.
CAD software also allows us to realise any design flaws before a product is physically created. By creating a realistic visualisation of a design, it is possible to note any flaws in a design before moving forward to the production phase. This helps to save time, money, materials and helps to create an overall more refined product.
CAD Design For Foam Products
Many of our clients benefit from the CAD design service we offer. CAD Design allows our clients to effectively visualise their desired foam product before it is made. CAD design is ideal for clients who have a foam product in mind but lack enough realisation to make it a reality.
Sometimes a client approaches us with an idea for a foam product. This can be conveyed to us verbally, on a paper template or even through a drawing or sketch. Most of the time products requiring a CAD design tend to be more intricate than some of the other foam products we produce.
Converting CAD Files Into CAM Files
When creating bespoke foam products for clients, we use CAD software to fully plan out the design. We then finalise our CAD design with the client before moving on to the production process.
Once the CAD file has been finalised, we can convert it to a CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) file. We do this because CNC (Computer Numerical Control) cutting equipment cannot read CAD files. Converting a CAD file to a CAM file makes it possible for our CNC equipment to correctly read and follow it. This is because CAM files are made up of a series of numerical values which prompts CNC equipment to operate in specific ways.
